In September of 2008, my Dad, Brother and I took a 2200 mile motorcycle trip from Kansas City to Deal's Gap, North Carolina, the infamous site of "The Tail of the Dragon", an 11 mile stretch of road touted as the curviest in America. It boasts 318 curves in 11 miles and is a mecca for motorcycle enthusiasts. Ever since seeing the movie “Wild Hogs”, I had wanted to take a long motorcycle trip with “the guys” to experience “the freedom of the road” as John Travolta’s character put it. This was my chance to do just that. Here are just a few pictures to highlight the trip. While we were all able to “tame the dragon” several times each, without getting bitten, the real highlight of the trip were the other hundreds of miles of spectacular motorcycle roads, the unbelievably perfect weather for 8 days straight with nary a mechanical problem, but most of all, the experience I was able to share with my Dad and Brother.
